A feature-rich climbing or mountaineering pack, the Osprey Variant 52 delivers durability, easy-access climb-friendly features, and a storage capacity of 2900+ cubic inches.
A 6mm aluminum frame and an HDPE framesheet lend the pack structure and load-balancing stability. When you aren’t carrying as much weight or want to reduce the weight of the pack itself, you can remove both of those entirely. A thermo-formed, contoured backpanel cushions the load and also effectively sheds snow in alpine conditions. Padded shoulder straps enhance fit and load-hauling capability, as does a contoured hipbelt that can be removed entirely for ease of use when you’re wearing a harness or simply aren’t carrying enough weight to require its use. Load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap further ensure a proper fit. The Small Variant 52 accommodates torso lengths ranging from 16”-19”, the Medium best fits 18”-21’, and the Large best fits 20”-23” torso lengths.
The top-accessed main packbag has a protective lid that can be removed entirely to reduce the weight of the pack. An integrated FlapJacket panel pulls forward to protect the packbag if and when you choose to leave the lid behind. In addition to the main compartment, there are dual zippered pockets in the lid and a large front panel pocket.
There are also an abundance of climbing and alpine features like reinforced A-frame carry ski loops, glove-friendly hardware, dual ice tool holsters with tie-offs, an under-the-lid rope compression strap and an integrated 3-point haul system. Other features include side compression straps, gear attachment points, a sternum strap safety-whistle, and a lined sleeve and built-in hose routing that makes the pack hydration system (sold separately) compatible.
